1914 "Red Sox Open Spring Training", Incredible Image by George Grantham Bain
1914 Photograph of Clyde Engle of the Boston Red Sox and taken at spring training with his boys. While Engle was an important player and this is a great shot, the background of this image is killer as it captures a famous team from the year they signed Babe Ruth and it gives an incredible look at the rickety facilities of the team. There are gloves, bats, and all sorts of equipment scattered around the ground which really makes this feel like a backyard game and not the most famous team of the era. Taken by the George Grantham Bain agency and has his stamp on the back and also a date stamp of April 1, 1914.
Size: 3 x 4.25"
Designation: TYPE 1
