Note:   This is the first time in our 40 years collecting we have acquired this poster.   It is also one of the earliest pieces of John Wayne Original Vintage Movie Paper we've ever offered.   A Three Sheet for this film sold in November 2020 for $15,600!

Important Added Info:   Note that John Wayne had his first chance at stardom in 1930 with "The Big Trail", and when that was not successful, he spent a few years in minor roles, and then became a major B-western star, and stayed that way until 1939, when he made "Stagecoach" and became a major star. At that point, all of his mid 1930s B-westerns were re-released, and no doubt that adds to the rarity of original movie posters from those movies..   Original first release 1934-35 movie paper of any sort from this movie is incredibly scarce!

Paradise Canyon (Monogram, 1935). Rolled, Fine. Half Sheet (22" X 28"). Western.
The last of the "Lone Star Westerns" John Wayne made for Monogram in the early years of his career, this is probably the most action-packed. As undercover Federal agent John Wyatt, Wayne is on the trail of a counterfeiting ring operating near the Mexico/Arizona border. Legendary stuntman Yakima Canutt supplies much of the action in this picture; Wayne and Canutt soon became good friends and would go on to appear in a number of pictures together.
Even if it didn't have his name in bold black and red at the top, there would be no mistaking that this is a John Wayne film. The legend himself is seen in a classic over-the-shoulder pose, and engaging in an intense bar brawl with famed stunt man and preferred Wayne stand-in Yakima Canutt, who is widely known for his amazing stunt work on John Ford's Stagecoach.  

Starring John Wayne, Marion Burns, Reed Howes, Earle Hodgins, Gino Corrado, Yakima Canutt, Perry Murdock, Gordon Clifford, Henry Hall, and Chuck Baldra. Directed by Carl Pierson. An unrestored poster with good color and an overall very presentable appearance. It may have mild edge wear, moderate creases, soft folds, corner bends, pinholes, small tears and chips, minute paper lifts, scuffs, smudges, or stains. There are strips of paper tape on the verso.

Condition: An unrestored half sheet that displays signs of use. May include slight edge and fold wear, light creases, smudges, and may show signs of light toning. Paper tape on the verso.   And unlie 90% of vintage half sheets, NEVER Folded, so NO deep vertical and horizontal creases.     * See enlargeable image above

Why I love half sheet movie posters:

Over the past 40 years collecting I've acquired a special affection for   vintage half sheet movie posters.   First, they are the ideal size to frame and display.   At an impressive but not overwhelming 22x28”, half sheets are large enough to deliver that Wow factor, but not so large they require an entire wall space and exorbitant frame cost.     And, the 22x28” frames are readily available at most craft stores like Michaels.  

Secondly, I love half sheets because their landscape design often resulted in superior   artwork and graphics.   Some of my favorites half sheets are from the John Wayne Republic pictures from the mid 1930s that feature a young Duke before he became a major star after 1939. .
