Universal Studios Copy Script for John Wayne Feature Idol of the Crowds - working title: "Hell On Ice" (Universal, 1937). 
Though known in the 1930s primarily for his many roles in low-budget Western films, John Wayne traded his gun for a hockey stick in director Arthur Lubin's Idol of the Crowds. Wayne stars as a chicken farmer who is enticed into playing ice hockey for money to upgrade his farm, but he runs afoul of gangsters as he leads his team into the championship series. A unique opportunity for fans of John Wayne to obtain a piece of history from one of the relatively rare instances of the Duke being pictured as a silver-screen sports star rather than a cowboy. 

Vintage original studio bound and bradded, 109-page script with typed cover reading, " u 'HELL ON ICE' starring JOHN WAYNE, /u Universal Pictures Company, INC. TREM CARR PRODUCTION" with Universal City Studios stamp and "6599." The title of this John Wayne sports drama, "Hell on Ice," was changed to Idol of the Crowds when the Hays Office objected to the use of the word "Hell." Exhibiting toning and chipping to green construction paper covers. First interior page is clipped. All other content in Fine condition.
