Hold That Ghost

Original Vintage Movie Herald
Starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello

Here is a really Rare piece of Classic Hollywood, Abbott & Costello History.  1941 was Abbott & Costello's first year making feature films together...  And ANY original movie paper from this film is the rarest of all their films as the one sheet has only surfaced once or twice and has sold for $3500.  The 1948 re-release one sheet movie poster which many collectors consider a better design has actually sold for up to $4800 (we have one for much less). .   An original 1941 Herald for only their third film..  With terrific graphics and images.  The FIRST we have ever seen in 37 years collecting Abbott & Costello.

SUPER RARE - May be the ONLY one in existence!

HIstory of Movie Heralds:

Movie heralds were small, flyer-like advertisements distributed to promote upcoming films, primarily from the silent era through the mid-20th century. They were an essential part of early movie marketing, especially before the dominance of trailers and widespread newspaper ads. Studios and theaters used them to generate excitement and awareness about new releases.

Typically printed on lightweight paper, heralds often featured colorful artwork, dramatic taglines, and enticing descriptions of the film’s plot, cast, and spectacle. They were handed out on the street, mailed to potential moviegoers, or included in newspapers. Some heralds even had detachable coupons or incentives to encourage attendance.

Heralds were particularly effective during the silent era and early talkies, when studios relied on bold visual promotion rather than television or radio ads. Over time, they became less common as film marketing shifted toward larger-scale posters, trailers, and mass media advertising. Today, original movie heralds are sought-after collectibles, valued for their historical significance and striking vintage designs.
