One of the most iconic images in all of cinematic history.    A James Dean image masterpiece

In the world of Fine Art we all have an idea what a Masterpiece is.  The Mono Lisa is a masterpiece.  When we hear the name Picasso, we think of masterpieces.    

But what about the Sports and Entertainment collecting genres?   To a Sports Collector a Grade 9 Mickey Mantle Rookie card is a masterpiece.  Enough of a masterpiece to command auction bidders fighting up to $12.2 Million to own one.  

When someone ask me what is a “Masterpiece”? , I say,  I know when I see it.  

Take for example the breath-taking image of James Dean sitting in back of a 1921 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost on the set of  the 1956 epic western drama Giant,  with the mansion in the background.  One of the most iconic images in cinematic history. When I look at the original lobby card for this film, I see a masterpiece! 

This iconic photo of Dean was taken on Friday, September 1955. The tragic car accident that claimed his life occurred a week later.  He unfortunately never lived to see “Giant”. 

This is only the 3rd time in our 40+ years collecting that we have acquired this elusive Holy Grail “Giant” lobby card.    And ten years since we had the last one which sold immediately.  

What more needs to be said ?

Condition: 
Very Good to Excellent condition.  Has two light staple marks in upper right corners that are not noticeable unless you know they are there.  Doesn’t have the typical heavy corners pinhole usually seen on the majority of vintage lobby cards.  Has a minor smudge on bottom right border.  That said, as Extraordinary find as the other two we acquired several years ago were Not in this amazing Excellent Original Un-restored condition. 

This piece of museum grade Hollywood History would steal the show even in an upscale home of masterpiece artwork!

A sprawling, epic saga of life in Texas based on the Edna Ferber best-selling novel, this was the final film for James Dean, released almost a year after his death, bringing him his second posthumous Oscar nomination. Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor are the ostensible leads, but it's Dean that everyone remembers.   And this iconic vintage 1956 lobby card with Hollywood's immortal James Dean is a surreal Masterpiece!
