"CHARLIE CHAN IN CITY IN DARKNESS", 1939
Original Vintage Movie Poster Lobby Card (11x14")
Starring Sidney Toler, and Lon Chaney Jr

Rare vintage lobby card for this classic Charlie Chan classic, the first after the sudden death of Chan legend Warner Oland, being replaced by Sidney Toler.  .    This particular lobby card is considered the best card of the set.  .  As a auction house described for their sale of a complete set , "Charlie Chan takes on the case of a murdered munitions manufacturer in Paris.  As an interesting note, one of the scene cards features Lon Chaney Jr. and Leo G. Carroll, both of whom were minor players in the cast"..    And THIS is that very Choice card !
* See enlargeable image above.

A few years before Lon Chaney played his immortal role of the "Wolfman" he co-starred as a relative unknown in this Charlie Chan classic.   Great Vintage lobby card scene as Lon Chaney Jr. & Leo Carroll rob unconscious Sidney Toler!  Very good condition with minor chips torn from the left blank border corner tips

Incredibly popular through the 1920s and 1940s, Charlie Chan films had become a favorite series among many mystery fans by 1939, with twenty-two Hollywood films already under the character's belt prior to City in Darkness. This exciting installment, in which Charlie attempts to solve a murder aboard a Hawaiian freighter, is especially notable as it marked the first appearance of Sidney Toler in the lead role, following the unexpected death of former Chan star Warner Oland.
