Babe's Last Public Appearance
On June 13, 1948 Ruth made his final appearance at Yankee Stadium and put on his old uniform for the last time as his number three was retired by the Yankees. After the ceremony the uniform would be shipped off to Cooperstown to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The day was hailed as Silver Anniversary Day at Yankee Stadium officially marking the 25th anniversary of “The House That Ruth Built.”.. Sixteen members of the 1923 Yankees came to the ceremony and even participated in a two inning old-timers game against a team of Yankee all-stars from other years. But everyone was there to see the man himself, Babe Ruth.

1948 "Babe Ruth Acknowledges Stadium Cheers" Wire Photograph. Measuring 8x10" this Original 1948 wire photograph was captured of Babe Ruth as he made his way out to home plate at Yankee Stadium one final time. During the celebration of his career, Ruth's number three was official retired and his locker was sealed. Reverse has a blue "Received Examiner Reference Library JUN 17 1948" stamp on the reverse as well as the Babe's name in black.
The Babe would pass away just two months after this Original photo was taken on August 16, 1948.
